Amica car insurance review

Amica’s auto insurance earned a 4.4 out of 5.0 Bankrate Score and tied with USAA for Best Auto Insurance Company Overall in the 2025 Bankrate Awards. The primary reason: Amica stands out among other highly-rated insurers for having consistently positive customer service reviews, with overwhelmingly glowing feedback from actual customers.

Amica’s actual auto insurance offerings are also a major draw, with robust coverage options including the Platinum Choice Auto package, which includes full glass coverage, identity fraud monitoring and generous rental car coverage. However, if you’re not interested in buying the full package, you’ve still got the option to add any individual endorsement to your base policy. As a mutual insurance company, Amica also gives policyholders the unique choice between a traditional policy and a dividend policy, which pays back 5 to 20 percent of your annual home insurance premium if certain conditions are met.

To discuss a quote with Amica, those interested can contact Amica over the phone or by visiting www.amica.com.

Amica home insurance review

With a Bankrate Score of 4.6 out of 5.0 for home insurance, Amica is one of the best home insurance companies thanks to highly customizable policies and a reputation for best-in-class customer service.

Amica offers both HO-3 and HO-5 home insurance products. Its Standard Choice package is an HO-3 policy type and may be ideal for those who only want basic coverage options with the option to purchase additional coverage, such as water backup/sump overflow or special computer coverage. Homeowners interested in an extensive home insurance policy can choose Amica’s Platinum Choice package, an HO-5 policy type that includes the additional options in its Standard Choice package as default, as well as credit card coverage, business property coverage, extended coverage for valuable items, loss assessment plan and increased limits for liability and medical payments coverage.

As with auto insurance, Amica gives home insurance customers the option to choose between a traditional policy and a dividend policy that can pay back a certain percentage of the annual premium. However, these policies may cost more, potentially outweighing the savings compared to a traditional policy.

Amica life insurance review

Amica isn’t known primarily for its life insurance products, but it does offer two types of life insurance: term life, available for terms from 10 to 30 years, and whole life insurance with coverage up to $20 million.

Amica’s life insurance policies offer a few perks and benefits that aren’t standard in the industry. For all beneficiaries of its life insurance policyholders as well as all company employees, Amica partners with the Empathy app to offer free counseling from grief specialists along with peer-to-peer support networks. For whole life policyholders, Amica highlights the ability to make a guaranteed charitable donation through your life insurance.

Pros and cons of Amica life insurance

While Amica’s life insurance offerings present benefits for some shoppers, the drawbacks may outweigh the advantages for others. Keep these in mind if you’re considering requesting life insurance quotes from Amica.

What are real-life customers saying about Amica?

We've had auto with them for 30+ years.
“We've had auto with them for 30+ years. We have had many claims over the decades, including a personal injury and auto theft. They have always been the BEST -- heck I just filed a claim the other day and 15 minutes later it was Amica calling to get some more info. They pay quickly. In my mind they are the best corporation I have ever dealt with. Hands down the best. And no, I don't work for them or have any connection with them other than being a VERY happy policyholder into our 4th decade.”

Would recommend.
“I had a home burn down in the Sept 2020 Oregon wildfires. Amica was amazing. Direct deposited $40k cash no questions asked when I opened my claim. I built a spreadsheet from memory of all the belongings lost, and they assigned a person to virtually recreate the home and interior for the dwelling payout. There were even funds available for temporary housing assistance. I was absolutely made whole; and when the State of Oregon and FEMA came looking for repayment of cleanup charges a few years later I directed them to Amica and never heard from them again. Would recommend.”

First-class service
“I have been with Amica for almost 30 years. I had one accident: I was the last car in a multiple-cars pile up. First-class service, although their rates are high. The way I look at it, when you need to call on an insurance company you're probably in a pickle. In such a situation, I want the best company available. A friend of mine had a car accident (no bodily injury), she was in AllState. I had to help her with the aftermath of the accident. Dealing with AllState was a nightmare: on hold forever, no response to messages I left or to emails. The incident made me glad I am with Amica.”

In collaboration with market research firm SliceMR, Bankrate surveyed over 3,000 insurance customers nationwide from 2024–2025, asking policyholders to rate their insurer's cost, coverage, customer support and overall experience on a five-point scale. Bankrate and SliceMR collected and analyzed these customer ratings, along with website analytics and responses to three open-ended questions regarding customer experience. Responses are based on individual policyholders' policy details and personal experience, and therefore cannot be verified for accuracy. Users received an incentive for their feedback. All ratings are unedited and have not been reviewed or approved by insurance carriers. User-generated ratings are separate from carrier Bankrate Scores — which are calculated based on our proprietary methodology — and may not match.

I’ve been with Amica for years. Have never had a problem when submitting a claim. They are knowledgeable and efficient. They are however most likely more expensive than other companies. I stay with them because of the good experience had over the years. When I submitted a claim for damage to my car the process was quick and easy

Bankrate Score

Our 2025 Bankrate Score for auto insurance considers key variables that our insurance editorial team determined impact policyholders’ experiences with an insurance company. These factors include a robust assessment of each company’s cost of coverage, product availability, financial strength ratings, online capabilities and customer and claims support accessibility. We grouped these factors into three essential categories — cost and ratings, coverage and savings, and support — which we then weighted in a tiered approach.

Each category was assigned a metric to determine performance, and the weighted sum adds up to a company’s total Bankrate Score — out of 5 points. Our scoring model provides a comprehensive view, indicating when companies excel across several key areas and highlighting where they fall short.

50% Cost & ratings

30% Coverage & savings

20% Support

  • Tier 1 (Cost & ratings): To determine how well auto insurance companies satisfy these priorities, our team analyzed quoted premiums from Quadrant Information Services (if available), as well as any of the latest third-party agency ratings from J.D. Power, AM Best, Demotech and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
  • Tier 2 (Coverage & savings): We assessed companies’ coverage options and availability to help policyholders find a provider that balances cost with coverage. Additionally, we evaluated the discount options listed on each company’s website.
  • Tier 3 (Support): To encompass the many ways an auto insurance company can support policyholders, we analyzed avenues of customer accessibility along with community support. This analysis incorporated additional financial strength ratings from S&P and Moody’s and factored in a company’s corporate sustainability efforts.

Tier scores are unweighted to show the company's true score in each category out of a possible five points.

  • Tier 2 (Coverage & savings): We assessed companies’ coverage options and availability to help policyholders find a provider that balances cost with coverage. Additionally, we evaluated each company’s discount options listed on its website.
  • Tier 3 (Support): To encompass the many ways a home insurance company can support policyholders, we analyzed avenues of customer accessibility along with community support. This analysis incorporated additional financial strength ratings from S&P and Moody’s and factored in a company’s corporate sustainability efforts.

Tier scores are unweighted to show the company's true score in each category out of a possible five points.

Bankrate Score

Our 2025 Bankrate Score considers variables our insurance editorial team determined impact policyholders’ experiences with an insurance company. These rating factors include a robust assessment of each company’s financial strength, product and rider offerings, availability, customer experience and corporate sustainability. Each factor was added to a category, and these categories were weighted in a tiered approach to analyze how companies perform in key customer-impacting categories.

Each category was assigned a metric to determine performance, and the weighted sum adds up to a company’s total Bankrate Score — out of 5 points. Our scoring model provides a comprehensive view, indicating when companies excel across several key areas and highlighting where they fall short.

  • Tier 2 (Coverage options): We assessed companies’ coverage options, availability and policy features to help policyholders find a provider that best meets their needs. We examined each company’s life insurance product lines, including term, whole and universal life options.
  • Tier 3 (Accessibility & process): To assess the ease and transparency of applying for coverage, we reviewed the simplicity of obtaining a quote and insurers' underwriting processes — including eligibility requirements. We also considered insurers’ community engagement.
