About Bankrate Score

Bankrate's take: NetCredit is a lender that provides small personal loans to borrowers with bad credit. Its annual percentage rate (APR) range is significantly higher than many other options, which makes its loans more costly than the typical loan. However, they may be a less-costly alternative to payday loans.

NetCredit is best for small bad credit personal loans

NetCredit offers personal loans for as little as $1,000 and as much as $10,000, giving borrowers with poor credit a way to pay for emergency expenses. While the maximum is much lower than many other lenders, the smaller cap may help you avoid borrowing more than your monthly budget can afford.

The exact amount you can borrow — as well as your loan terms — will depend on the state you live in. The annual percentage rate (APR) for NetCredit's loans is high, starting at 34.00 percent and going as high as 99.99 percent. Before you borrow, you should calculate your personal loan cost to ensure you are able to afford a loan from NetCredit.

NetCredit personal loan purposes

One unique feature of NetCredit’s products is that you can choose an installment loan, a line of credit or both, and NetCredit’s website doesn’t list any restrictions on how you use your loan or line of credit funds.

That may come in handy if you need a loan for a small cost, like new tires on your car, and prefer a fixed payment. Or if you know your air conditioner or water heater is at the end of its life, you could take a line of credit so you have the funds available if either one breaks down. You’ll only make a payment on the amount you use, and can pay the balance off without penalty.

Where NetCredit personal loans stands out

  • Better rates and terms than payday lending: Despite its high APR, NetCredit's rates are lower than many payday loans, and you can choose terms up to 60 months, giving you more time to repay your loan.
  • Fee reduction options available: Borrowers can potentially reduce the statement balance fee by 33 to 60 percent after a series of regular on-time payments.
  • No prepayment penalties: Like many lenders, NetCredit doesn’t charge prepayment penalties. You can pay off the balance or replace it with a lower interest rate loan when your credit scores improve.

Where NetCredit personal loans falls short

  • Very high APRs: NetCredit's APRs are much higher than the 6 percent to 36 percent range you’ll find with most bad credit personal loans.
  • Costly cash advances: If you opt for NetCredit's line of credit, there is a 10 percent cash advance fee every time you withdraw funds.
  • Statement fees: There is also a statement balance fee for the line of credit that varies depending on how much of your line is used and whether you pay bi-weekly or monthly.

NetCredit vs. OppLoans

You can borrow as much as $10,000 with NetCredit compared to the $5,000 cap at OppLoans. However, OppLoans may be a better option if you only need a $500 loan — you’ll need to borrow at least $1,000 at NetCredit. Rates are much lower at NetCredit, maxing out at 99.99 percent compared to the 195.00 percent APR offered by OppLoans.

NetCredit vs. OneMain Financial

NetCredit offers payoff periods as short as 6 months, much less than the 24 month minimum term offered by OneMain Financial. You can also borrow as little as $1,000 at NetCredit compared to the $1,500 minimum required by OneMain.

OneMain’s APRs are between 18.00 percent and 35.99 percent which gives you substantial savings over NetCredit’s 34.00 percent to 99.99 percent range. You can also choose to add a cosigner to help you qualify for a OneMain loan, something that’s not permitted at NetCredit.

Do you qualify for a NetCredit personal loan?

NetCredit requires proof of employment and regular income. When you apply, it will pull a credit report to verify your credit history and credit score. The only other requirements required for a prequalification are proof of a valid checking account and email address.

How to apply for a personal loan with NetCredit

  1. Get a quote: You can prequalify online without hurting your credit score. Customer service is available every day of the week to assist with this process.
  2. Add information and finalize your application: You’ll need to document your employment and income to qualify for a NetCredit loan.
  3. Review the loan details: Review the fees and APR before you sign your contract to make sure you understand how your payment and fees will be calculated.

If you submit your loan application before 11 a.m. CT Monday through Friday, you could receive funds the same day.
