Best regional bank: Western State Bank
Western State Bank ranks as Bankrate’s best regional bank for the second straight year.
It received high scores for its Free Checking account that keeps monthly checking service fees low and offers a favorable ATM fee refund policy. But Western State Bank isn’t a one-dimensional bank. It also has a Regular Savings account that scored high for its low minimum balance requirement of $100.
Western State Bank customers have access to thousands of MoneyPass network ATMs. These help its customers avoid ATM fees, though the bank does also offer up to $20 per month in ATM fee refunds.
The bank also fared well thanks to its highly-rated mobile banking offering. Western State Bank has its company headquarters in Devils Lake, North Dakota. It has nine branches in Arizona and North Dakota.
